Welcome to the first selfie museum in Wilmington, NC owned by a Class of 2000 Laney grad, Dr. Tiese Roxbury.  She is known for giving back to the city through her annual scholarship, Young Women With Goals, which she started in 2008 for extraordinary female athletes at  E.A. Laney High School.   Now she continues planting seeds in Wilmington through this self-love venture because the Port City holds a special place in her heart even though she has since moved to Greensboro, Indianapolis, and Lake Orion.

 

The Self-Love Museum is a passion project birthed from Dr. Roxbury's love of traveling, taking pictures, and self-care. She refers to herself as a professional iPhone photographer and wholeheartedly believes in:

• Creating memorable experiences because memories last long after the moment is over.

• Taking pictures of ourselves and the ones we love because people are not promised to us forever. 

 

Dr. Roxbury has watched as several selfie museums have popped up across the country and during a trip back home to Wilmington in December 2020 she said, "Why not us? Why not here?"  

Wilmington is historic. Wilmington is scenic. It's a perfectly deserving place to have such a venue to celebrate its beautiful residents and promote love for self and love for the city. 

 

The Self-Love Museum is unique as it aims to educate and be a positive outlet for a city that has seen a recent increase in violence. Given Dr. Roxbury's background in education, the museum will also dive deep into community engagement events to further the educational components.  It is our vision to provide learning experiences and educational resources for children, teens, and adults.
